Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2017

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, City of Ottawa's 1,666 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $192,815,560.63 in 2016.

At the top of the City of Ottawa Sunshine List

Topping the list for the City of Ottawa was Medical Officer Health, Public Health Isra Levy, who brought home $302,412.41 in 2016.

Following Isra Levy was General Manager, Planning, Infrastructure and Economic Development John Moser, with annual earnings of $269,596.13. Associate Medical Officer of Health Robin Taylor made $263,892.15, General Manager, Transportation Services Giovanni Manconi made $253,765.01, and Project Manager, Infrastructure Planning Thomas Cooper round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $244,735.37 for the City of Ottawa 2017 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2016, 795 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 802 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 54 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 11 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 3 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 1 received over $300,000 at the City of Ottawa.
