Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2008

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Topping the list for the Community Safety & Correctional Services was Assistant Deputy Minister, Public Safety JAMES YOUNG, who brought home $298,973.48 in 2007.

Following JAMES YOUNG was Chief Coroner BONITA PORTER, with annual earnings of $280,216.94. Deputy Chief Coroner MICHAEL POLLANEN made $277,659.21, Provincial Deputy Chief Coroner JAMES CAIRNS made $276,071.08, and Regional Supervising Coroner DAVID EVANS round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $267,643.54 for the Community Safety & Correctional Services 2008 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2007, 896 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 740 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 36 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 6 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 13 received between $250,001 and $300,000 at the Community Safety & Correctional Services.
