Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2020

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Energy, Northern Development and Mines's 162 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $20,220,328.64 in 2019.

Topping the list for the Energy, Northern Development and Mines was Deputy Minister Stephen Rhodes, who brought home $338,865.36 in 2019.

Following Stephen Rhodes was Deputy Minister David De Launay, with annual earnings of $287,422.98. Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic, Network and Agency Policy Carolyn Calwell made $228,683.16, Assistant Deputy Minister, Mines and Minerals Division Christine Kaszycki made $216,207.47, and Chief Administrative Officer/Assistant Deputy Minister Scott Mantle round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $214,459.60 for the Energy, Northern Development and Mines 2020 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2019, 59 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 77 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 20 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 4 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 1 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 1 received over $300,000 at the Energy, Northern Development and Mines.
