Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2022

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Government and Consumer Services's 1,420 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $170,543,089.05 in 2021.

At the top of the Government and Consumer Services Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Government and Consumer Services was Deputy Minister Karen Hughes, who brought home $346,650.05 in 2021.

Following Karen Hughes was Associate Deputy Minister Dafna Carr, with annual earnings of $287,967.61. Deputy Minister Renu Kulendran made $268,310.30, Assistant Deputy Minister, Central Services Division Agatha Garcia-Wright made $250,890.87, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Supply Chain Ontario Douglas Kent round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $250,060.53 for the Government and Consumer Services 2022 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2021, 595 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 723 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 85 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 12 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 4 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 1 received over $300,000 at the Government and Consumer Services.
