Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2006

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Labour's 53 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $6,195,552.29 in 2005.

Topping the list for the Labour was Deputy Minister VIRGINIA WEST, who brought home $207,437.74 in 2005.

Following VIRGINIA WEST was Deputy Minister JILL HUTCHEON, with annual earnings of $186,509.44. ADM, Operations HELLE TOSINE made $151,289.42, Provincial Physician LEON GENESOVE made $150,450.18, and ADM, Canada-Ont. Service Coll. Sect. PETER INOKAI round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $148,428.70 for the Labour 2006 Sunshine List.
