Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2022

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Labour, Training and Skills Development's 572 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $68,526,021.39 in 2021.

At the top of the Labour, Training and Skills Development Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Labour, Training and Skills Development was Deputy Minister Greg Meredith, who brought home $337,921.97 in 2021.

Following Greg Meredith was Provincial Physician Nikhil Rajaram, with annual earnings of $298,074.50. Deputy Minister Sophie Dennis made $293,171.32, Assistant Deputy Minister, Workforce Policy and Innovation Division David Carter-Whitney made $237,905.69, and Deputy Minister David S-M Wai round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $229,205.62 for the Labour, Training and Skills Development 2022 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2021, 232 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 302 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 29 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 6 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 2 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 1 received over $300,000 at the Labour, Training and Skills Development.
