Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2023

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Ontario Power Generation's 8,228 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $1,273,377,660.54 in 2022.

Topping the list for the Ontario Power Generation was President and Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Hartwick, who brought home $1,726,068.02 in 2022.

Following Kenneth Hartwick was Chief Strategy Officer Dominique Miniere, with annual earnings of $1,694,538.28. Chief Projects Officer Michael Martelli made $968,710.30, Executive Vice President Business Strategy and Commercial Management Christopher Ginther made $782,757.22, and Chief Nuclear Officer Steve Gregoris round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $732,234.99 for the Ontario Power Generation 2023 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2022, 732 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 3,975 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 2,544 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 701 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 155 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 121 received over $300,000 at the Ontario Power Generation.
