Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2018

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, University of Waterloo's 1,450 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $219,512,124.15 in 2017.

At the top of the University of Waterloo Sunshine List

Topping the list for the University of Waterloo was President Feridun Hamdullahpur, who brought home $399,999.96 in 2017.

Following Feridun Hamdullahpur was Professor Raymond Laflamme, with annual earnings of $316,680.42. Vice-President, Advancement Joanne Shoveller made $301,000.08, Vice-President, University Relations Sandra G. Banks made $299,000.04, and Interim Vice-President, Academic and Provost George Dixon round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $292,500.00 for the University of Waterloo 2018 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2017, 203 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 566 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 525 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 134 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 18 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 4 received over $300,000 at the University of Waterloo.
