2017 Sunshine List: Municipal Affairs top earners

Every year by March 31, Alberta government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, at the Municipal Affairs 120 staffers made the list, earning a total salary of $13,884,977.75 in 2016.

At the top of the Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Municipal Affairs was Housing Laurie LeBlanc who brought home $242,431.56 in 2016.

Following Laurie LeBlanc was Assistant Deputy Minister, Municipal Services Division / Sous-ministre adjointe, Division des services aux municipalités Elizabeth Harding, who had annual earnings of $169,324.76. Assistant Deputy Minister, Local Government and Planning Policy / Sous-ministre adjointe, Division des administrations locales et des politiques d'aménagement Kate Manson-Smith made $168,811.42, Assistant Deputy Minister, Ontario Growth Secretariat / Sous-ministre adjoint, Secrétariat des initiatives de croissance de l'Ontario Larry Clay made $168,811.42 and Assistant Deputy Minister, Business Management Division / Sous-ministre adjoint, Division de la gestion des activités ministérielles James Cassimatis round out the top-five highest paid employees with $168,811.42 for the Municipal Affairs 2017 Sunshine List.

The Sunshine List

Alberta first started publishing the Sunshine List in 2014 following the 2012 election of Alison Redford.

The salary and severance disclosure, makes Alberta's public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Alberta to make public the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.
