Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 1998

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

At the top of the Queen's Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Queen's was Vice-Principal and Dean ( Health Sciences) Barry T Smith, who brought home $230,641.46 in 1997.

Following Barry T Smith was Chief of Staff, Kingston General Hospital W John S Marshall, with annual earnings of $213,547.92. Principal and Vice Chancellor, Biology Prof. William C Leggett made $201,820.00, Vice- Principal (Advancement) Florence Campbell made $169,462.45, and Vice-Principal ( Academic) and Prof., Biology David H Turpin round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $161,827.02 for the Queen's 1998 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 1997, 37 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 31 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 3 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 3 received between $200,001 and $250,000 at the Queen's.
