Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 1998

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Transportation's 36 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $4,035,455.33 in 1997.

Topping the list for the Transportation was CEO & Pres. OTCC DENNIS GALANGE, who brought home $149,528.67 in 1997.

Following DENNIS GALANGE was Deputy Minister JAN RUSH, with annual earnings of $145,718.44. Head-Program Admin. A.G CURTIS made $126,825.54, Deputy Minister GEORGE DAVIES made $126,231.49, and ADM Corp. Services REINHOLD STROETTER round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $124,974.35 for the Transportation 1998 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 1997, 22 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 14 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 at the Transportation.
