Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2005

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, University of Toronto's 1,507 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $201,860,832.18 in 2004.

Topping the list for the University of Toronto was VP/Chief Advancement Officer JON DELLANDREA, who brought home $376,523.46 in 2004.

Following JON DELLANDREA was Prof., English/VP/Provost SHIRLEY C. NEUMAN, with annual earnings of $347,864.53. Prof./Dean, Med/Vice-Provost, RHCI C. DAVID NAYLOR made $344,800.50, Prof., Health Admin./VP/Provost VIVEK GOEL made $322,256.08, and President/CEO FELIX P. CHEE round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $321,827.96 for the University of Toronto 2005 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2004, 316 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 890 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 214 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 60 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 14 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 13 received over $300,000 at the University of Toronto.
