Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2007

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Legal Aid Ontario's 42 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $4,983,431.02 in 2006.

At the top of the Legal Aid Ontario Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Legal Aid Ontario was Chair, Legal Aid Ontario JANET LEIPER, who brought home $208,999.96 in 2006.

Following JANET LEIPER was General Counsel RUTH LAWSON, with annual earnings of $174,246.57. Vice President, Clinic & Special Services SUSAN MCCAFFREY made $147,545.31, Vice President, Policy, Planning & External Relations GEORGE BIGGAR made $147,479.94, and Vice President, Corporate Services MICHELLE SEGUIN round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $146,694.98 for the Legal Aid Ontario 2007 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2006, 18 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 22 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 1 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 1 received between $200,001 and $250,000 at the Legal Aid Ontario.
