Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2008

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Legislative Assembly's 122 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $16,353,198.63 in 2007.

At the top of the Legislative Assembly Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Legislative Assembly was Premier DALTON MCGUINTY, who brought home $203,439.27 in 2007.

Following DALTON MCGUINTY was Clerk, Legislative Assembly DEBORAH DELLER, with annual earnings of $178,363.20. Leader, Official Opposition JOHN TORY made $175,638.80, Parliamentary Assistant, Economic Development & Trade MONTE KWINTER made $170,945.43, and Minister, Community Safety & Correctional Services RICK BARTOLUCCI round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $161,039.88 for the Legislative Assembly 2008 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2007, 5 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 88 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 28 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 1 received between $200,001 and $250,000 at the Legislative Assembly.
