Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2010

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Cancer Care Ontario's 86 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $14,122,575.05 in 2009.

Topping the list for the Cancer Care Ontario was Vice President, Clinical Programs CAROL SAWKA, who brought home $519,728.37 in 2009.

Following CAROL SAWKA was Director, Health Services Research CRAIG EARLE, with annual earnings of $468,834.60. President/Chief Executive Officer TERRY SULLIVAN made $464,489.07, Vice President, Planning & Regional Programs MICHAEL SHERAR made $428,000.07, and Vice President, Prevention & Screening GEORGE PASUT round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $356,834.39 for the Cancer Care Ontario 2010 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2009, 20 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 40 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 10 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 3 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 7 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 6 received over $300,000 at the Cancer Care Ontario.
