Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2015

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Hydro One's 4,279 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $550,166,908.04 in 2014.

At the top of the Hydro One Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Hydro One was President and Chief Executive Officer Carmine Marcello, who brought home $741,554.25 in 2014.

Following Carmine Marcello was Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Strategic Planning Sandy Struthers, with annual earnings of $520,312.38. Senior Vice President, Operations Wayne Smith made $462,594.81, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Construction Michael Winters made $403,062.16, and Senior Vice President, Pensions Robert Cultraro round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $360,714.97 for the Hydro One 2015 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2014, 984 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 2,687 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 545 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 39 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 15 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 9 received over $300,000 at the Hydro One.
