Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2017

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Topping the list for the City of Hamilton was Associate Medical Officer of Health Jessica Hopkins, who brought home $331,623.92 in 2016.

Following Jessica Hopkins was Medical Officer of Health Elizabeth Richardson, with annual earnings of $270,991.60. Firefighter Shawn Elliott made $265,571.88, City Manager Christopher Murray made $264,704.44, and Chief Of Police Eric Girt round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $236,121.77 for the City of Hamilton 2017 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2016, 560 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 594 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 68 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 9 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 3 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 1 received over $300,000 at the City of Hamilton.
