Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2019

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Community and Social Services's 487 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $56,849,577.94 in 2018.

At the top of the Community and Social Services Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Community and Social Services was Deputy Minister Janet Menard, who brought home $305,620.60 in 2018.

Following Janet Menard was Chief Information Officer Dafna Carr, with annual earnings of $207,676.40. Assistant Deputy Minister, Social Assistance Operations Richard Steele made $207,676.40, Assistant Deputy Minister, Community and Developmental Services Karen Chan made $203,969.48, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Poverty Reduction Strategy Karen Glass round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $192,290.49 for the Community and Social Services 2019 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2018, 260 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 196 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 27 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 3 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 1 received between $250,001 and $300,000 at the Community and Social Services.
