Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2019

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Environment and Climate Change's 521 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $59,799,130.15 in 2018.

Topping the list for the Environment and Climate Change was Deputy Minister Serge Imbrogno, who brought home $288,321.07 in 2018.

Following Serge Imbrogno was Deputy Minister Paul Evans, with annual earnings of $288,321.07. Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Management Heather Taylor made $213,671.48, Assistant Deputy Minister, Environmental Policy Division James Whitestone made $207,676.40, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Environmental Policy Division Alison Pilla round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $207,676.40 for the Environment and Climate Change 2019 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2018, 325 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 173 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 17 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 4 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 2 received between $250,001 and $300,000 at the Environment and Climate Change.
