Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2019

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Health and Long-Term Care's 780 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $92,343,644.49 in 2018.

At the top of the Health and Long-Term Care Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Health and Long-Term Care was Deputy Minister Robert Bell, who brought home $426,535.20 in 2018.

Following Robert Bell was Chief Medical Officer of Health, Public Health David Williams, with annual earnings of $408,743.21. Deputy Minister Helen Angus made $320,031.45, Chief Health Innovation Strategist William Charnetski made $256,382.27, and Associate Deputy Minister/Chief Information Officer Lorelle Taylor round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $244,145.22 for the Health and Long-Term Care 2019 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2018, 410 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 310 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 45 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 11 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 1 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 3 received over $300,000 at the Health and Long-Term Care.
