Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2023

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Topping the list for the Children, Community and Social Services was Medical Director Ajit Ninan, who brought home $401,922.18 in 2022.

Following Ajit Ninan was Deputy Minister Denise Cole, with annual earnings of $363,768.11. Paediatrician Michelle Ponti-Sgargi made $360,140.90, Deputy Minister Janet Menard made $343,154.50, and Paediatrician Clare Mitchell round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $307,056.50 for the Children, Community and Social Services 2023 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2022, 438 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 585 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 46 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 10 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 8 received between $250,001 and $300,000 at the Children, Community and Social Services.
