Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2024

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Topping the list for the University Of Waterloo was President Vivek Goel, who brought home $494,223.30 in 2023.

Following Vivek Goel was Professor Kenneth Klassen, with annual earnings of $382,255.16. Vice-President, Academic and Provost James Rush made $363,000.06, Professor Raymond Laflamme made $356,244.92, and Associate Professor Blake Phillips round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $340,694.60 for the University Of Waterloo 2024 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2023, 314 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 754 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 571 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 405 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 72 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 23 received over $300,000 at the University Of Waterloo.
