Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2007

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Topping the list for the Community Safety & Corr. Services was Commissioner, Ontario Provincial Police GWENNETH BONIFACE, who brought home $326,210.04 in 2006.

Following GWENNETH BONIFACE was Assistant Deputy Minister, Public Safety JAMES YOUNG, with annual earnings of $298,973.48. Chief Coroner BARRY MCLELLAN made $253,890.10, Regional Supervising Coroner DAVID EVANS made $251,956.84, and Commissioner, Ontario Provincial Police JULIAN FANTINO round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $250,047.08 for the Community Safety & Corr. Services 2007 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2006, 702 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 507 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 29 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 12 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 4 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 1 received over $300,000 at the Community Safety & Corr. Services.
