Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2007

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, University of Toronto's 1,892 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $263,584,790.34 in 2006.

Topping the list for the University of Toronto was President & Chief Executive Officer, University of Toronto Mississauga FELIX P. CHEE, who brought home $539,654.04 in 2006.

Following FELIX P. CHEE was Managing Director, Investment Strategy JOHN LYON, with annual earnings of $408,741.04. Vice President & Provost VIVEK GOEL made $374,767.56, President, University of Toronto C. DAVID NAYLOR made $374,220.02, and Dean, Rotman School of Management ROGER MARTIN round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $357,875.04 for the University of Toronto 2007 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2006, 335 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 1,075 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 359 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 85 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 23 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 15 received over $300,000 at the University of Toronto.
