Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2008

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Health & Long-Term Care's 191 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $24,645,614.76 in 2007.

At the top of the Health & Long-Term Care Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Health & Long-Term Care was Psychiatrist RUSSEL FLEMING, who brought home $270,674.29 in 2007.

Following RUSSEL FLEMING was Medical Microbiologist FRANCES JAMIESON, with annual earnings of $264,112.10. Psychiatrist WILSON GASEWICZ made $249,230.41, Psychiatrist VERGHESE JOHN made $249,197.33, and Psychiatrist MICHEL PIGEON round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $248,708.59 for the Health & Long-Term Care 2008 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2007, 66 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 91 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 21 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 11 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 2 received between $250,001 and $300,000 at the Health & Long-Term Care.
