Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2016

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, McMaster University's 1,137 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $179,388,940.04 in 2015.

Topping the list for the McMaster University was Dean and Vice President (Health Sciences) John Kelton, who brought home $496,494.45 in 2015.

Following John Kelton was Professor Mark Crowther, with annual earnings of $474,278.40. Professor Akbar Panju made $422,560.77, Professor Mohamed Elbestawi made $421,759.46, and President and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $402,869.67 for the McMaster University 2016 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2015, 147 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 383 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 476 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 84 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 28 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 19 received over $300,000 at the McMaster University.
