Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2021

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Transportation's 940 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $110,203,935.00 in 2020.

At the top of the Transportation Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Transportation was Deputy Minister Laurie Leblanc, who brought home $318,124.27 in 2020.

Following Laurie Leblanc was Deputy Minister D. Scott Thompson, with annual earnings of $282,222.65. Associate Deputy Minster John Lieou made $259,553.73, Chief Information Officer, Transportation Cluster Wynnann Rose made $246,968.87, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Transportation Safety Kevin Byrnes round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $209,574.38 for the Transportation 2021 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2020, 408 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 491 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 35 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 3 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 2 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 1 received over $300,000 at the Transportation.
