Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2022

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Cabinet Office's 102 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $14,296,745.27 in 2021.

Topping the list for the Cabinet Office was Secretary of the Cabinet Steven Davidson, who brought home $555,606.86 in 2021.

Following Steven Davidson was Deputy Minister Lynn Betzner, with annual earnings of $419,933.91. Deputy Minister Martha Greenberg made $354,670.10, Deputy Minister Annina Chiarelli made $336,439.12, and Senior Director and Legal Counsel Donald Fawcett round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $257,321.95 for the Cabinet Office 2022 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2021, 36 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 43 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 15 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 2 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 2 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 4 received over $300,000 at the Cabinet Office.
