Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2023

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

2023 Ontario Sunshine List: Solicitor General Top Earners

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Solicitor General's 2,911 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $359,667,275.42 in 2022.

At the top of the Solicitor General Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Solicitor General was Fire Investigator Stephane Dubuc, who brought home $477,649.18 in 2022.

Following Stephane Dubuc was Chief Coroner Dirk Huyer, with annual earnings of $456,719.75. Deputy Chief Forensic Pathologist Jayantha Herath made $447,666.16, Deputy Chief Forensic Pathologist Kristopher Cunningham made $444,342.25, and Chief Forensic Pathologist Michael Pollanen round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $443,125.06 for the Solicitor General 2023 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2022, 1,117 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 1,535 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 185 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 31 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 8 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 35 received over $300,000 at the Solicitor General.
