Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2007

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Community and Social Services's 102 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $11,837,740.63 in 2006.

Topping the list for the Community and Social Services was Deputy Minister KEVIN COSTANTE, who brought home $214,860.90 in 2006.

Following KEVIN COSTANTE was Regional Director, Hamilton/Niagara Region TERRY J. MCCARTHY, with annual earnings of $172,483.67. Chief Medical Advisor GREG DEMARCHI made $170,049.13, Chief Information Officer, Children, Youth and Social Services Cluster HELENA TAYLOR made $168,649.65, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Family Responsibility Office SHARON VAN SON round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $163,574.92 for the Community and Social Services 2007 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2006, 58 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 35 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 8 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 1 received between $200,001 and $250,000 at the Community and Social Services.
