Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2007

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Labour's 48 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $5,669,066.17 in 2006.

At the top of the Labour Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Labour was Deputy Minister VIRGINIA WEST, who brought home $217,721.90 in 2006.

Following VIRGINIA WEST was Provincial Physician LEON GENESOVE, with annual earnings of $172,992.84. Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations HELLE TOSINE made $167,267.73, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy Division SUSANNA ZAGAR made $156,929.68, and Medical Consultant LILLIAN WONG round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $150,258.21 for the Labour 2007 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2006, 26 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 17 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 4 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 1 received between $200,001 and $250,000 at the Labour.
