Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2023

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Citizenship and Multiculturalism's 37 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $4,768,758.67 in 2022.

At the top of the Citizenship and Multiculturalism Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Citizenship and Multiculturalism was Deputy Minister David S-M Wai, who brought home $257,144.40 in 2022.

Following David S-M Wai was Assistant Deputy Minister, Citizenship and Inclusion Michelle Gittens, with annual earnings of $203,547.12. Director, Ontario Honours and Awards Susan Golets made $167,001.82, Director, Ontario Honours and Awards Jennifer Lang made $163,727.96, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Anti-Racism Directorate Parminder Bhatthal round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $162,412.56 for the Citizenship and Multiculturalism 2023 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2022, 10 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 19 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 6 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 1 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 1 received between $250,001 and $300,000 at the Citizenship and Multiculturalism.
