Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2004

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Health & Long-Term Care's 205 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $29,863,832.88 in 2003.

At the top of the Health & Long-Term Care Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Health & Long-Term Care was Commissioner of Public Health COLIN D'CUNHA, who brought home $363,721.69 in 2003.

Following COLIN D'CUNHA was Deputy Minister PHILIP HASSEN, with annual earnings of $360,435.68. ADM & CEO, LTC Redevelopment Proj. GAIL PAECH made $286,426.42, Psychiatrist-in-Chief/ Clinical Director SUSAN ADAMS made $254,948.40, and Psychiatrist ROBERT KING round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $241,914.83 for the Health & Long-Term Care 2004 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2003, 60 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 77 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 31 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 33 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 2 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 2 received over $300,000 at the Health & Long-Term Care.
